Why none of my jewelry is exactly like another

One of the questions I get asked most often when someone receives one of my pieces of jewelry is whether the piece they receive will be exactly the same as the one in the photograph.

And the answer is very simple.

It will be very similar, but it probably won't be identical.

Not because it was made hastily or because the design changed. Quite the opposite.

It's because I work with materials that have a life of their own.

Nature never repeats itself twice

Many of the pieces I use incorporate natural stones.

Even if two beads are of the same type of stone, I always find small differences when I have them in front of me.

One has a more pronounced vein.

Another reflects light differently.

Another changes color slightly depending on how you look at it.

For a long time, I thought these differences had to be hidden.

Now I believe just the opposite.

They are what make each piece of jewelry special.

Pearls don't try to be perfect either

I especially like baroque pearls.

They don't follow a mold.

They are not perfectly round.

They don't try to look like each other.

And perhaps that's why they have so much personality.

Every time I prepare a design with them, I spend a good while looking for the combination that best fits.

I'm not looking for two identical pearls.

I'm looking for two pearls that understand each other.

Handmade always leaves a small mark

Every earring, every necklace, and every detail passes through my hands several times before it's finished.

Even if I follow the same design, there are always small gestures that change.

The position of a bead.

The orientation of a stone.

The drape of a piece.

These differences are so small that often only I see them.

But they are there.

And they are part of the story of that piece of jewelry.

I don't mass-produce

We live surrounded by identical objects.

We open a box and we know that inside there is another product identical to thousands of others.

Craftsmanship works differently.

Each piece needs time.

Each assembly requires attention.

And each design has small nuances that appear during the process.

I believe that this makes wearing artisan jewelry have a different meaning.

Beauty is also in authenticity

Over time, I have learned that often we seek a perfection that does not exist in nature.

A tree trunk has knots.

A leaf has different shapes.

A stone has veins.

A pearl has unexpected curves.

And, precisely for this reason, they seem beautiful to us.

They don't try to be perfect.

They simply are as they are.

A piece of jewelry made to accompany you

When I finish a piece and prepare it for shipping, I always think that it is going to start a different story.

Perhaps it will accompany a birthday.

A trip.

A family meal.

An important interview.

Or any ordinary day when someone simply decided to wear their favorite earrings.

I like to think that, in a few years, that piece of jewelry will still hold a memory.

And that those small differences that make it unique will be precisely one of the reasons why it can never be replaced by another one just like it.
